Caesarean, Cesarean or C-Section birth

Whether you call it a caesarean, cesarean or c-section our three specialist female obstetricians and gynaecologists have extensive experience at performing this operation.

Approximately 30% of women delivered in our public hosptial system will have a caesarean section. For many mothers this will be a choice having regard to their previous birth experiences (eg big baby and small pelvis), other health complications or expectations for birth. This is often called an elective cesarean. For others they will end up having an unplanned caesarean section because of complications during a natural birth. This is often referred to as an emergency cesarean.

Like any surgical procedure, a c-section has risks and potential side effects which you should discuss before making a decision to proceed.

Of course a caesarean delivery may not be your choice or appropriate. Whatever your circumstances, our three specialist female obstetricians (Dr Anna Rogers, Dr Jean Wong and Dr Leah Xu) are available to perform natural births, assisted deliveries (ventouse and forceps), caesarean sections or vaginal birth after caesarean (VBAC).

Our group philosophy supports your choice of primary obstetrician and ensures that you are familiar with our two other doctors (whom you will have met during your pregnancy) who may cover shifts overnight or on the weekend. Our doctors work independently but support each other with a shared after-hours, on-call roster.
