Dr Anna RogersDr Anna Rogers, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, MBBS, FRANZCOG

Dr Anna Rogers graduated from the University of Melbourne Medical School in 1994 and entered specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1996. She obtained her membership of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2000 and Fellowship in 2003.

Anna worked at Cheltenham and Winchester hospitals in the UK for 3 years gaining postgraduate experience in obstetrics and laparoscopic and other minimally invasive surgical techniques. She returned to Australia in 2004 to a consultant position at the Ballarat Base Hospital and commenced private practice there, in both obstetrics and gynaecology.

Anna is now a Consultant Obstetrician and Clinical Director of the Emergency Department at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne. Her role includes teaching junior doctors to do caesarean sections, in addition to the range of responsibilities as an obstetrician. She has now resumed private obstetrics with the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consulting Group. Her private patients have priority, and both private and public systems benefit from the ‘cross fertilisation’ of ideas and experience.

Anna has medicine and particularly obstetrics ‘in the blood’. The first Australian Rogers; Dr Robert Rogers (b.1797), Anna’s great, great, great grandfather, was a graduate in surgery from Edinburgh University in 1818. He emigrated from Scotland in 1836 as a ship’s surgeon and continued to practice medicine in NSW including appointment as Government Medical Officer at Blackheath Stockade 1846-49 and Coroner at Hartley in 1848. He was kicked in the head by his horse while crossing the flooded Lachlan River to see a patient in 1849 and drowned.

Anna’s grandfather, Dr Felix Favaloro was a doctor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Head of Obstetrics at Box Hill Hospital.

Like her ancestors, Anna has a strong calling and passion for medicine - particularly obstetrics. She feels privileged to assist people in one of the most important events of their lives. In order not ‘to drown’, (amongst many other reasons!), Anna has joined with colleagues Dr Jean Wong and Dr Leah Xu to create the O&GCG. The tight-knit team allows them to maintain their own health and wellbeing in light of a profession that requires alertness, compassion and the highest quality of care to be applied around-the-clock every day.

Anna has two angels, Noni and Ben, and deeply understands the joys of parenthood.
