Obstetricians say: Start Well...Stay Well.
"The health and subsequent quality of life of children are principally determined by events that occur before birth. A successful pregnancy and term delivery provide the best possible opportunity for a child to enjoy normal health and development"
- Pregnancy Research Centre, Department of Perinatal Medicine, The Royal Women's Hospital
Pregnancy can be an exciting and daunting time in your life. What is needed during this important time is a caring and non-judgemental professional to guide you through your pregnancy and delivery - whether it is your first baby or your fourth.
Your choice of obstetrician means personalised 'safe care' for you.
Your personal Obstetrics & Gynaecology Consulting Group female obstetrician will care for you during pregnancy and deliver your baby in the majority of cases. Our priority is you and your baby's well-being, and hence we have a 'safe care' roster system that allows for a well-rested and skilled obstetrician to be available to you 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. She will be either your own personal obstetrician, or one of the other doctors in the group, all of whom you will have met during your pregnancy.
Where will I give birth?
To ensure the best possible care for you, we choose to deliver babies only at Frances Perry House (FPH), not only because of its excellent staff and facilities but also because of its nearby location to our practice. Our close proximity ensures fast response times to you going into labour because our doctors don't need to drive around town between different hospitals, being delayed by traffic etc.
Our location also gives you easy access to The Royal Women's Hospital emergency services and neo-natal intensive care unit (the only one in the CBD) should the need arise.
After delivery you may choose to continue post-natal care at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne, via the Parenting Program, a hospital-assimilated, five-star luxury hotel where you will be cared for by Frances Perry staff.
Frances Perry House and The Royal Women's Hospital have now relocated to the new Parkville site adjacent to the Royal Melbourne and Melbourne Private Hospitals. As our patient you will benefit from the new state-of-the-art facilities and support of Melbourne's largest metropolitan hospital, with specialists in all fields of medicine conveniently located on site.
At what stage of my pregnancy do I first need to see an obstetrician?
Generally speaking we see you for your first appointment at between 8-10 weeks of pregnancy. We'll then see you once-monthly up to 28 weeks, then fortnightly until 36 weeks and once-weekly until delivery.
How do I make an appointment with an obstetrician?
Once you have chosen your Obstetrics & Gynaecology Consulting Group obstetrician you will need to see your General Practitioner for a referral. Please see our Appointments page for further details or call our office on: (03) 9329 6668 if you need further information.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and we look forward to hearing from you soon!
